What you need

  • A Yealink WH64 headset with an EHS62-compatible base.
  • The supplied base power adapter.
  • A Yealink EHS62 adapter.
  • Cable B for Avaya/Grandstream phones, RJ9 to RJ9.
  • A Grandstream GXP2135 that is already powered, registered and working.

This installation requires a compatible desk base. It does not apply to a Hybrid kit used only with a USB dongle.

1. Configure the Grandstream phone

Ask your administrator to open the phone’s web interface using its IP address. Go to:

Settings → Preferences → Audio Control
Older firmware may show Settings → Audio Control.

Setting Select
Headset Type Plantronics EHS
Headset Key Mode Toggle Headset/Speaker
EHS Headset Ringtone Enable / Yes, if available
Always Ring Speaker Yes, both or Yes

Click Save and Apply, then reboot while the phone is idle. If your provider manages provisioning, have these settings retained in the phone’s profile.

Note: the Yealink image also lists Default Mode or Headset/Hands-free Mode. This guide uses Toggle Headset/Speaker to enable the separate EHS Headset Ringtone feature according to Grandstream’s instructions.

2. Connect the equipment

  1. Connect the supplied power adapter to the WH64 base and a wall outlet.
  2. Connect the EHS62 USB lead to the base’s AUX port shown in the wiring image. Other compatible base versions may label this connection Phone.
  3. Connect Cable B to the corresponding socket on the EHS62.
  4. Connect the other end of Cable B to the phone’s HEADSET jack. Leave the telephone handset connected to its own jack.
  5. Set the headset’s power switch as described at the beginning, then place the headset on its base to charge.

Check the ports: do not use the WH64 base’s PC port for the EHS62 connection. Cable B must connect to the phone’s HEADSET jack, not its handset, LAN or PC jack.

3. Activate headset mode

  1. After the phone restarts, press its HEADSET button while idle.
  2. Confirm that the headset icon appears on the phone’s screen.
  3. Select the desk-phone source on the WH64 base if needed.
  4. Leave the telephone handset on its cradle.

4. Test your calls

  1. Call the GXP2135 from another phone.
  2. Check that the headset receives a ring alert.
  3. Press the headset’s call button to answer.
  4. Verify that both people can hear clearly.
  5. Press the call button again to end the call.
  6. Confirm that the phone returns to idle.
  7. Repeat a short distance from the desk to test remote answer/end.

Before relying on remote control: verify answer/end on your installed GXP2135, WH64 base and firmware combination. The manufacturer’s general Grandstream instructions do not guarantee these functions for every configuration.

Daily use

  • Answer: press the call button once when the headset rings.
  • End: press the call button again.
  • Place a call: dial on the phone and use headset mode.
  • Volume: use the headset volume buttons during a call.
  • Mute: use the headset mute control; unmute to speak.
  • Charge: return the headset to its base between calls.

Quick troubleshooting

No audio: check base power, phone source, Cable B, volume and mute.

No headset ring alert: check EHS Headset Ringtone, Toggle Headset/Speaker and the headset icon on the phone.

Cannot answer/end remotely: recheck Plantronics EHS and base compatibility. Ask support to verify phone, headset and EHS62 firmware.

Settings revert after reboot: ask your administrator to correct the provisioning profile.
